The Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, has denied allegations that he has received bribes from the murder accused in the Louis Siemens case, Stanley Bakili.

OFM News earlier reported Bakili stated in an affidavit filed in court that he paid two separate amounts - R84 000 and R70 000 - into Motsoaledi's bank account on 17 November last year. Bakili – the alleged mastermind behind the killing of Siemens - alleged that the bribes were in fact help improve the chances to expand the license for the CitiMed Day Clinic, headed by Siemens. Bakili says the two of them were business partners. OFM News’ Pulane Choane reports that Motsoaledi is not taken this lightly.

Motsoaledi's spokesperson, Popo Maja, refuted these claims and said that he is pursuing the matter legally. Maja said while he was not sure whether legal proceedings were instituted already, he could confirm that the minister’s legal team was in contact with Bakili’s legal representatives. It remains unknown whether Motsoaledi will be summoned to take the stand as a witness. Meanwhile, leader of the DA, Patricia Kopane, said she sent a letter to the Health Minister regarding these allegations. She gave him seven days to respond, failing which she will report him to the Parliament’s Ethics Committee. Maja said the office did not receive a letter yet. Head of the Free State Department of Health, David Motau, was also implicated and allegedly received a bribe of R150 000. Motau is yet to respond to OFM News’ questions.
