#OFMArtBeat - The Free State Art Collective's art goes viral | News Article

The artists in the Free State Art Collective have used the lockdown to let their creativity shine through and have also been there to support one another through conversations and art.

The Free State Art Collective’s main purpose is to develop and sustain the careers of all the artists who belong as members and to raise awareness of talent in the Free State, thereby developing a more visible national presence. The Collective also aims to mentor emerging artists and to provide a network of information and opportunity.

Workshops will be offered by professionals, providing further skills and conceptual development training; with the intention of keeping Free Sate artists connected to national trends and new innovations in art production and practice.

Like a gallery, the Free State Art Collective has a growing stable of artists whose work will be promoted and sold via the brand. But unlike a gallery, there is no tie to a specific exhibition space. Instead, the collective is mobile, working through the unique curation of events and via exposure nationally at established art shows and events.

New words have entered our vocabulary in the matter of weeks - ‘self-isolation’, ‘lockdown’, ‘flattening the curve’. Who would have thought that a worldwide pandemic would impose on every living individual, forcing us to question the current state of being, thinking, working and relating.

'LOCKDOWN // A viral art experiment' is an experiment in solidarity – of how a creative spark can also initiate a positive viral response. It started with a single quotation which was given to two artists in the collective, a viral process then commenced whereby one artwork inspired two more, each of which inspired a further two and so on.

The Free State Art Collective created a body of work which has become an online exhibition initially and then finally which will be presented as an actual exhibition once we get to the other side of Corona. The entire collection can be viewed here: www.freestateartcollective.co.za/lockdown.html

The entire process has been shared via the FSAC website, Instagram and Facebook pages. If you want to purchase any of the art works you can contact founder of the Free State Art Collective Karen Brusch on info@freestateartcollective.co.za or phone 084 017 0728
