#FamilyFocus: World Heart Week - What you eat directly impacts your heart health | News Article

What are "bad" fats and what are "good" fats? Why is salt so bad for your heart? What is a healthy diet? These are some of the questions we get answered by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of SA.

Diet is a risk factor for heart health and up to 80% of premature heart disease and stroke can be prevented through your life choices and habits, such as eating a healthy diet.

Eating a healthy, balanced diet is one of the most important things you can do to protect your heart and overall health.

Hayley Cimring is a Senior Registered Dietician and Nutrition Team Leader at the Heart and Stroke Foundation of SA and shares her insights with us. Find the podcast below.

We also speak about the Heart Mark that shoppers can look out for on products in shops across South Africa.

The Heart Mark and Diabetics SA's endorsement programs are part of ongoing efforts by the Heart and Stroke Foundation to reduce the number of deaths in South Africa from preventable heart disease and stroke. The Heart Mark logo takes the guesswork out of choosing food products so that consumers do not need to read complicated food labels.

Remember - always look out for the Heart mark and Diabetics - SA logos on food packaging. These logos are not a diet but rather, a guaranteed way to always buy foods lower in salt, lower in sugar, lower in fats and higher in fibre.
