Former Springbok shot dead in Cape Town | News Article

Cape Town - Former Springbok flank, Solly Tyibilika, the first black player to score a Test try for the Boks, was shot dead in a Cape Town tavern yesterday. The 32-year-old, born in Port Elizabeth, scored the try on his Test debut against Scotland in Edinburgh in 2004. Western Cape police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk said two armed men entered a tavern in Gugulethu at 2pm yesterday and began shooting randomly. Two other patrons were wounded during the incident. Van Wyk said police are still looking for the two gunmen who escaped, one in a sedan taxi, the other on foot. Tyibilika made 158 first-class appearances, scoring 24 tries, for Griqualand West, the Sharks, Lions and Border.
