Bloemfontein - The motive for the murders of retired Barkly East farmer Dawid de Villiers and his wife Ralie in their farmhouse is still unknown.
Police spokesperson Ursula Roelofse says the elderly couple’s bodies were discovered at about 3am this morning by their daughter, Christina. They had cuts and stab wounds all over their bodies.
Their 53-year-old son, Dawie, was found seriously wounded, also with stabs and cuts. Christina, a doctor, treated her brother and rushed him to hospital in Aliwal North. He was airlifted to Mediclinic Bloemfontein by an Aerocare air ambulance this morning.
Christina’s husband, Johan Olivier, also a doctor in Barkly East, says his wife is on her way to Bloemfontein to be with her injured brother.
Olivier says his parents-in-law and their children were a very close-knit family.
Roelofse says a team of detectives was assigned to investigate the murders.
