Zola Budd sad about Korkie's death─── 12:59 Mon, 08 Dec 2014

Bloemfontein - Marathon athlete Zola Budd has expressed sadness at the death of her ex-coach and friend Pierre Korkie in Yemen on Saturday.
Budd said in a statement that she is very saddened by his death as he had a profound influence on her life. Budd said she will miss him. Korkie coached Budd in 1988, at the height of her athletics career. The former Bloemfontein Grey College teacher and a US photographer, Luke Somers, were killed during an attempt by US special forces to free them from their Al-Qaeda captors in Yemen. Korkie was a teacher in Yemen when he and his wife Yolandé were kidnapped by militants in Taiz. Yolandé was released in January this year and returned to Bloemfontein to be with their teenage children. Korkie's body is expected to arrive in South Africa today. According to Gift of the Givers who helped to negotiate Yolandé release says she is expected to attend a press conference tomorrow in Johannesburg. In a statement, Yolande said a memorial service would be held in Bloemfontein this week.
