Eskom should look at other alternatives: IRR─── 05:12 Tue, 24 Mar 2015

Johannesburg - Eskom should look into mixed power stations that use coal, nuclear and renewable energy to generate electricity, in the hopes of decreasing the energy shortage gap in the country.
Spokesperson of the Institute of Race Relations (IRR) Mienke Steytler says among the possible options suggested to keep Eskom afloat is to hand over the distribution of electricity to an independent operator.
The DA in the Free State claims the Free State government owes Eskom over R1 billion.
Meanwhile Eskom wants a 12% tariff hike from July to help cover the cost of diesel used to operate gas turbines, which have assisted in preventing load shedding over the past year.
