The Natjoints, which coordinates security and law enforcement operations throughout the country, included structures such as the South African Police Service, the intelligence committee and the National Prosecuting Authority.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said five border posts were inspected from Monday. They include; Ficksburg and Maseru (Lesotho), Ramatlabama, Skilpad, Kopfontein and Grobblersbrug (Botswana), Oshoek and Golela (Swaziland), Beitbridge (Zimbabwe) and Lebombo and Gate 6 (Mozambique).

“During this period every year hundreds of thousands of people, including holiday makers and migrants, pass through our land ports either on foot or in cars and buses to holiday destinations or to return home to neighbouring countries, namely Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Mozambique,” Naidoo said on Thursday.

“The NatJoints roleplayers visited the ports of entry to ensure that the capacity and capabilities of the various departments deployed at these ports are adequate to ensure the smooth flow of people and combat crime.”

He urged travellers to ensure that they were in possession of relevant documentation to prevent delays.

“Furthermore, travellers are cautioned against offering any form of remuneration to officials in exchange for favours as this is a criminal offence. Officials have been warned about the serious consequences of soliciting bribes,” said Naidoo.
