DA MP Glynnis Breytenbach to appear again─── 08:24 Wed, 16 Mar 2016
Pretoria – DA MP Glynnis Breytenbach is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court today on charges of obstruction and defeating the ends of justice.
The charges relate to her allegedly refusing to hand in her official laptop and removing evidence from it while she faced an internal investigation for misconduct several years ago.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) also claims that Breytenbach's lawyer, Gerhard Wagenaar, refused to hand over her laptop.
NPA spokesperson, Luvuyo Mfaku, said their case was very strong and he believed they would get a conviction. Mfaku maintained that there was no political motive behind the case.
The Democratic Alliance, however, says the charges were fabricated.
Breytenbach and Wagenaar were released on R10 000 bail on February 15. At the time she said she was looking forward to proving her innocence.
