Matlosana - Factionalism is a danger to the survival of the African National Congress.

This is according to ANC Secretary General, Gwede Mantashe.

Mantashe spoke about this issue during his key note address at the memorial lecture of the late South African Communist Party (SACP) General Secretary, Chris Hani, at the Matlosana Auditorium, in Klerksdorp, on Saturday.

SACP provincial secretary in North West, Madoda Sambatha, says Mantashe mentioned that it could cause further division and conflict within the party if it’s not rooted out.

“None of us must run away from fighting it because in simpletons the African National Congress to an organization that it is not meant to be. It is factionalism that has torn apart provinces in most instances. Provinces are weaker on the bases that each time there are constitutional contests individuals fight it out as if it’s the last day of the life of the organisation. The view of the SG is that we must focus on confronting factionalism,”

He added that Mantashe said the ANC’s National Conference in December should be used as a platform to help rework the organisation so that the party is properly united.
