Only one incident has been reported to police after concertgoers were robbed and assaulted near the FNB stadium. Seven people have been arrested. Those caught up in the chaos claim there wasn't a police officer in sight.

The festival's major partner, the Motsepe Foundation, says it's deeply saddened and says additional security must be placed outside the stadium in future. It was an event thousands of South Africans were looking forward to for months, but moments after the concert finished a nightmare ensued for many just down the street from the extravagant event.

Metro police say overall planning and command of the event was the responsibility of the SAPS. JMPD officers were manning all traffic points around the stadium but maintain they did not turn a blind eye to any crime.

Officials have called on those who experienced incidents of crime to come forward with more information.
