Bloemfontein - Confusion over the dates the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court was to hear an assault charge against a suspended Wilgehof teacher has led to the case being postponed to next week.
Leonard MacKay, a Grade 6 and 7 teacher, stands accused of assaulting a 12-year-old learner at the school a year ago.
The court docket showed that MacKay was due to appear today, while the charge sheet showed August 20th as the date of appearance.
In June this year MacKay was at the centre of a racism row at Wilgehof for allegedly racially abusing a pupil and for displaying an old South African flag on his classroom wall, among other things.
His disciplinary hearing for the racism incident is scheduled for August 26th, while the assault case will be heard in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on the 27th.
