Two men accused of the murder of the 21-year-old farm manager Brendin Horner at Paul Roux near Bethlehem are due back in the Senekal Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

The two alleged repeat offenders - who still have pending cases of stock theft against them - were nabbed in October, two days after Horner's murder. OFM News' Elsabe Richard reports accused number one, Sekwetje Mahlamba (32), and his co-accused, Sekola Matlaletsa (44), previously appeared in court and only Matlaletsa was granted bail of R5000.

The Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Thoko Didiza, says training and assessment are essential for those who are allocated state land. The minister made this statement when she attended a two-day programme held by Sernick Group in Kroonstad where certificates were handed over to emerging farmers in the Free State after completing training by Sernick. Didiza added that the prospective farmer will receive support from the government to commence farming. She noted that some of the farms that were advertised by the government were already occupied by farmers and communities while others are vacant. Furthermore, she added that the government has another training programme, in collaboration with the Agricultural Business Chamber (Agbiz), where on an annual basis 1 000 interns are accepted to participate. Didiza said these interns consist of unemployed agricultural graduates as well as unemployed people who did not necessarily graduate from agricultural courses.
