Agri podcast: NC municipality reportedly responsible for blood spillages | News Article

The Ga-Segonyana Local Municipality in Kuruman, in the Northern Cape, is allegedly responsible for the ongoing spilled blood that is leaking into the nature reserve.

AfriForum's district coordinator in the Kalahari district, Werner Strauss, tells OFM News that previously, the abattoir was accused of the leakage. However, new information has revealed that the abattoir in question is in a contractual agreement with the municipality. Strauss says that the agreement highlights that the abattoir is paying the municipality on a monthly basis to pump the blood from their tanks and remove it.

The axing of the Chief Financial Officer of the North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sophy Koianyang, comes after being found guilty of irregularly awarding a multi-million Rand security tender, as well as authorising the payment of over R6 million to Agridelight. Departmental spokesperson for the DA in the North West, Jacqueline Theologo, tells OFM News that it is surprising that her dismissal followed shortly after she informed the Provincial Legislature's Portfolio Committee on Agriculture of MEC Desbo Mohono's travel claim, that allegedly exceeded R1 million, in her private vehicle in the 2019/20 financial year. OFM News awaits a response from the North West Department of Agriculture.

Police members in the Free State managed to act just in time to prevent a farm attack in the Heilbron area. Free State Agriculture (FSA) says it is grateful for the police's swift intervention. This follows after four men and one woman were arrested just before a farm attack could be carried out on Tuesday evening. According to Free State Agriculture's security risk analyst, Dr Jane Buys, good information was the key to these successful arrests. The organisation has meanwhile written a letter to the Free State Police Commissioner, Baile Motswenyane, wherein the organisation indicates that they will assist police to oppose the upcoming bail applications of the accused.
