#GBV: Teen allegedly robbed, raped and murdered in Khuma─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:00 Sun, 22 Aug 2021
The community of Khuma near Stilfontein outside Klerksdorp in the North West is fuming following the alleged murder of a teenage girl at the hands of suspected criminals in the area.
Her murder comes amidst the country's observation of gender-based violence (GBV) across the nine provinces.
Community members allege that the girl, believed to be 19-years-old, was murdered this week. They alleged that the girl was robbed of her phone, raped and then murdered by criminals.
On Friday, residents also marched to the police station in Khuma to demand justice for the teenage girl.
It's not yet clear if arrests have been made but the police spokesperson, Aafje Botman, tells OFM News that investigations are currently continuing.
This follows after the murder of another young female sent shockwaves throughout the country. The discarded remains of the 23-year-old Nosicelo Mtebeni, who is a law student at the University of Fort Hare, were found in a suitcase, while other body parts were found in a plastic bag inside a house at Quigney in East London.
A 25-year-old man, alleged to be her boyfriend, has since been arrested and is set to appear in court on Monday 23 August 2021.
