Funding available for businesses in food tech space | News Article

The SA Innovation Summit is collaborating with Anza Capital and the World Innovation Economics (WIE) to support fast-growing businesses and start-ups involved in the food tech space.

Tarisiro Matiza, Project Manager of the SA Innovation Summit, encourages South African businesses to apply to be part of the FoodTech Programme as it is filled with a lot of benefits, including funding.

See PODCAST below

The FoodTech Programme aims to support innovators who are working to solve food security challenges due to, amongst others, water scarcity, supply chain inefficiencies and food wastage.

Matiza adds that as a result of the mentioned challenges, there is a need to develop a sustainable agricultural practice as well as food production, in a bid to ensure that communities have access to a nutritious food supply.

She explains that in order to be considered for the FoodTech Programme, the applicant should look at the criteria and note that only South African registered businesses are eligible to apply. These businesses should have at least two founders and six months of revenue.

“Anza Capital is looking to invest up to R7 million into any one of the successful applicants that meet the criteria and have also shown that they’ve got good market traction and that they’re building a sustainable business that has the potential for high growth,” Matiza further explains.

Additional benefits include:

  • Mentorship and investment readiness support,
  • Media exposure,
  • Participation at the SA Innovation Summit, and
  • A chance to pitch at the WIE Innovation Awards in Davos, Switzerland.

The closing date of the competition is Sunday 24 July 2022 at 23:59.
