Sharks in easy victory─── 07:08 Sat, 14 Jun 2008
Welkom. - The Sharks won their compulsory friendly against the Griffons in Welkom on Friday night with 44-15 victory, running at the Griffons at every opportunity and scoring eight tries.
With new captain and flyhalf Bradley Barritt directing play the Sharks backs were too skillfull and pacey for the home side and Springbok Henno Mentz scored twice on his return to the team.
Barritt left his kicking boots at home, missing all five of his conversions attempts that could have boosted the score-line. The Griffons competed in the forwards and their new loose-forwards
worked tirelessly with the Shimlas flanker Albert Parsons scoring one of his side's two tries.
Sevens Springbok record try scorer, Fabien Juries, scored the second and bedazzled the defence with his counter-runs. Former Leopards Dumisani Matyeshana and lock Pampoen van Jaarsveld
score tries in the last minutes to take the Sharks' score past the 40-mark.
Scorers: Sharks: Tries: Henno Mentz (2), Charl McLeod, Dumisani Matyeshana, Danie Dames, Pampoen van Jaarsveld, Jacques Botes, Waylon Murray. Conversions: Matyeshana, Luzuko Vulindlu.
