The World Cup-winning Springbok, Ruan Pienaar, has extended his stay at the Toyota Cheetahs. Earlier in the season, there were talks that the 37-year-old Cheetahs captain will be hanging up his boots.

However, Pienaar, who has represented the Springboks in 88 Tests has signed a contract extension at the Franchise which will see him playing for the Cheetahs until the end of October next year.

Pienaar previously told OFM Sport that he is not ready to call it day.

“Like you've seen with CJ (Stander) - retiring at 30, he says a rugby player will know when his time is finished and he has had enough. It probably came quite early in his career.

“I'm quite a few years older than him, but I must say that I still enjoy waking up in the morning, training and all the challenges that come with preparing for games.

“As long as I have that and still have the enjoyment factor, I will go as long as I possibly can.

“Of course, you want to add value and still feel like when you play on a Saturday you are the best in your position.

“As long as I've got those things in place and I still enjoy it, then hopefully I can carry on playing a little bit longer.”

On Friday the fullback, Clayton Blommetjies, also signed a year-long contract extension.
