The Varsity Cup heats up with semi-final spots up for grabs─── MORGAN PIEK 09:25 Mon, 04 Apr 2022

It's round eight of the Varsity Cup on Monday and there will be some intense battles on the cards, especially with the semi-finals looming.
On Monday afternoon at 17:00, UWC will be hosting UJ in Bellville.
At 19:00 the CUT Ixias will be at home to North West University Eagles at CUT Park in Bloemfontein, while in Stellenbosch, Maties will tackle the Madibaz at the Danie Craven Stadium.
At the same time the log-leaders, the Shimlas, will be up against the defending champions, Tuks, in Bloemfontein.
With the rain around in Bloemfontein there are no doubt that it will be a wet one and will be the great leveler.
Tuks are the best defensive unit in the Varsity Cup this year, while the Shimlas in their turn have been the most dangerous on attack. This could very well play into the favour of the visitors from Pretoria.
The Shimlas flyhalf, George Lourens, who has been the Player That Rocks in the past two games, told OFM Sport that it's a must-win game.
“They have been the team that has conceded the least tries while scoring the most as a team. It will be a real attack versus defensive game and hopefully the rain can stay away and it can be a real spectacle.
“We know that it's going to be a tough game against a proper outfit. We have to bring our A-game, hopefully get a win and secure our spot in the semi-finals.”
This game between the Shimlas and Tuks at Shimla Park will be a televised match.
In Monday's last match Wits will be home to the Ikeys.
