Griquas will hope for a capacity stadium in the #CurrieCupFinal─── MORGAN PIEK 07:55 Mon, 20 Jun 2022

The Griquas will be hoping for a full stadium when they host the Pumas on Saturday in the Currie Cup final.
The final will be played in Kimberley for the first time in 52 years after they beat the Bulls 30-19 in Pretoria on the weekend in the semi-finals, while the Pumas stunned the Cheetahs with a 38-35 win in Bloemfontein.
The Griquas will be playing in the final of the Currie Cup for the first time in 52 years after famously having beaten the then Northern Transvaal (Bulls) 11-9 in the final in Kimberley.
The stadium in Kimberley has a capacity for 12 800 supporters, but at this stage they can only accommodate half of that number.
A report in on Netwerk24 indicated that the Covid-19 restrictions which limited stadiums to a 50% capacity could be lifted.
Meanwhile, the coach of the Peacock Blues, Pieter Bergh, said it’s time to make their own legacy.
“I said to the players in the team talk that there is a reason the Guinness Book of World Records gets rewritten each year.
“I was sick and tired of talking about 1970. The team in 1970 won it and we haven't won it yet, but it's the first time in the final in 52 years, so I am incredibly proud of these players.”
The Griquas have won the Currie Cup on three occasions after also lifting the trophy in 1899 and in 1911. Their opponents, the Pumas, are in the final for the first time ever.
Saturday's final in Kimberley is set to kick off at 15:00.
