Boks braced for tough Rugby Championship openers Down Under─── MORGAN PIEK 10:12 Thu, 01 Aug 2024
“We are playing against an Australian team that have historically performed well at home, so we want to correct the mistakes we made in the last few games, and just as they would like to, we want to win both matches in Australia.”
The Springboks arrive in Australia on Thursday ahead of their two opening Tests of the 2024 Rugby Championship.
The four-time World Champions will tackle the Wallabies in a double-header over the next couple of weeks to kick off their campaign, and they will seek to improve on their record Down Under.
Since 1993 the Springboks have won six Tests in Australia against the Wallabies, while their record in Brisbane does not make for good reading. Their only win in Brisbane post-isolation was a 38-12 victory in 2013.
The coach, Rassie Erasmus, said they are well aware of their record Down Under and the objective is to set that record straight in Brisbane and Perth.

The Wallabies seem to be resurgent under the guidance of the seasoned coach, Joe Schmidt, and Erasmus added that he is a wily old fox who will get his team fired up for the Tests.
“When Joe was the coach of Ireland I worked closely with him during my time at Munster, and he is a man with a great work ethic and who knows how to bring the best out of his players, so we know the magnitude of the challenge that lies ahead.”
Erasmus added that their preparations for the Test in Brisbane will begin as soon as Friday to acclimatise to the conditions and it’s important to hit the ground running.
“We’ll arrive in Australia on Thursday and have training sessions on Friday and Saturday, so we’ll get straight into the swing of things as soon as possible to acclimatise to the conditions and environment and hit the ground running in the hope of getting off the tour to a good start.”
The first Test at the Suncorp Stadium kicks off next week on Saturday at 06:35, while they will play in Perth the following week.
