Glasgow Warriors send the Stormers packing─── MORGAN PIEK 07:36 Sat, 31 May 2025

The defending champions, the Glasgow Warriors, delivered a commanding performance at Scotstoun Stadium on Friday night (30/5), securing their place in the United Rugby Championship semi-finals with a resounding 36–18 victory over the Stormers.
For the second year in a row, Franco Smith’s men proved too strong for the South African visitors in the quarter-finals, setting up a tantalising clash against either Leinster or the Scarlets.
From the opening whistle, Glasgow showed clear attacking intent, relentlessly exposing a Stormers defence that looked unusually porous.

The Warriors’ forward pack laid a solid foundation, providing quick ball that allowed their backline to launch wave after wave of attack. Early tries from Rory Darge and Kyle Rowe – the latter finishing off a clever grubber kick from Sione Tuipulotu – helped Glasgow build a commanding early lead.
The Stormers’ problems deepened when wing Seabelo Senatla was shown a yellow card for a cynical infringement, leaving his side short-handed and vulnerable. Glasgow capitalised, with Henco Venter crashing over for another try.

Although Senatla returned to score just before and after half-time, keeping the Stormers within reach at 19–13 at the break, Glasgow never lost their grip. The second half saw more dominance from the hosts, with Rowe grabbing his second after a brilliant break by Tom Jordan. Scrumhalf George Horne then put the result beyond doubt with a try and a penalty, stretching the lead to an unassailable 36–18.
Despite moments of individual brilliance from Senatla and flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, the Stormers struggled to find cohesion and break down Glasgow’s disciplined defence. Costly handling errors and lapses in defence ultimately sealed their fate.

This emphatic win underlines Glasgow’s intent to defend their title. Their combination of forward power and expansive backline play proved too much for the Stormers, who now face the disappointment of another season ending at the hands of the same opponent. The Warriors, meanwhile, march on with confidence, ready for the challenge of the semi-finals.
On Saturday at 13:30, the Bulls will face Edinburgh at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria, while at 16:00 Leinster face the Scarlets at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, and at 18:30 the Sharks entertain Munster at Kings’ Park in Durban.
