Springboks will continue innovating─── MORGAN PIEK 08:26 Tue, 15 Jul 2025

The Springboks have shifted their focus to Georgia for the final Test of the 2025 incoming series, and they’ll back themselves to secure a third straight victory.
The back-to-back World Champions will face the Lelos in Mbombela where more changes to the match-day squad are expected.
Much has been said about the Boks’ innovative tactics during their 45–0 demolition of Italy at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium over the weekend. While those tactics proved effective against the Azzurri, they’ve also sparked criticism with some even questioning their legality.
Italian head coach Gonzalo Quesada was among those unimpressed. He felt the Springboks were good enough to win without needing to use such unconventional methods.

Springbok forwards coach Deon Davids has defended their approach, saying innovation is part of the team’s DNA and that they’ll continue to embrace new ideas, even those seen at school level.
“Obviously, as a team, we always aim to evolve our game and be creative,” said Davids.
“We watch rugby from teams all over the country and around the world. We noticed that move, saw an opportunity to do something different, and fortunately, it worked out for us.”
“It might be something we can take forward, and it should also serve as encouragement to coaches out there.
“There are plenty of bright ideas and fresh thinking in the game, even at primary or high school level, and we’re always looking at ways to improve and grow.”
Meanwhile, the Springbok team to face Georgia will be named on Tuesday. It’s expected that regular captain Siya Kolisi will return to lead the side, while former Cheetahs Marnus van der Merwe and Boan Venter could be in line for their Test debuts.
Saturday’s clash at Mbombela Stadium kicks off at 17:10.
