Harris qualifies for the US Open─── MORGAN PIEK 08:28 Sat, 23 Aug 2025

South Africa’s leading men’s singles player, Lloyd Harris, has booked his place in the 2025 US Open at Flushing Meadows in New York.
Although Harris is a former quarter-finalist at the year’s final Grand Slam, he had to come through the qualifiers after missing several ATP events this season while recovering from injury.
On Friday (22/8) in the third and final qualifying round, Harris beat Spain’s Daniel Merida Aguilar to seal his spot in the main draw. He sent down 12 aces on his way to a convincing 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) victory.

Earlier in qualifying, Harris edged England’s experienced Dan Evans 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in the opening round, before comfortably dispatching China’s Fajing Sun 6-2, 6-2 in a rain-delayed second-round match.
His last appearance on the ATP Tour came at Wimbledon, where he lost in four sets to Russia’s Andrey Rublev in the second round. Rublev had also beaten him earlier this year in the opening round of the French Open at Roland Garros.
In the first round of the US Open, Harris will face Argentina’s Sebastian Báez. It will be their first-ever meeting, with the match scheduled for 17:00 on Monday.
