Load-shedding could be back, Eskom warns─── 16:13 Thu, 28 Feb 2019
The utility advises the public to check their schedules and to plan on the assumption of an impending outage.
Eskom on Thursday warned that there was a “possibility” of load-shedding as a result of a shortage of generating capacity.
Eskom said there was an increased risk of load shedding between 2-10pm Thursday, with the risk of load shedding remaining until the end of the weekend.
The power utility said in a statement: “While the risk remains high, load shedding will only be implemented if absolutely necessary. We remind customers that load shedding is a controlled measure which protects the power system from a total collapse or blackout.”
Eskom encouraged customers to continue to use electricity sparingly and switch off geysers, pool pumps, as well as all non-essential lighting and electric appliances to assist in reducing demand. The public was also advised to keep checking their load shedding schedules on the Eskom and municipal website, and plan on the assumption that load-shedding would take place.
“Eskom will continue to provide regular updates about the state of the power system through various media platforms,” said the troubled power utility.
