Nersa may conduct own investigation into Eskom governance failures─── 09:40 Fri, 08 Mar 2019
The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) says it may initiate its own investigation into governance failures at embattled state power utility Eskom.
A combination of deep-seated concerns about poor governance, weak balance sheet and financial ratios, falling electricity sales, a lower-than-expected tariff increase and bulging municipal arrears have compounded Eskom’s woes.
Nersa chairperson Jacob Modise says the energy regulator may affect adjustments to Eskom's revenue based on the relevant outcome of investigations.
He says Nersa has made several proposals to improve Eskom's operational efficiencies, which included reducing costs and providing a plan within six months on cost cutting measures, reducing unplanned outages and trips, and development of a detailed maintenance plan.
