UPDATE: Eskom ups load shedding to Phase 4─── 10:38 Sat, 16 Mar 2019
Eskom has announced that Phase 4 load shedding is now applicable.
The electricity supplier indicated on its Twitter page shortly after 10am Saturday morning that the occurrence of load shedding was increasing largely due to the reduced imports from Mozambique, which is currently reeling from a cyclone.
It then within the hour announced that due to the loss of an additional 900 MW from the Mozambique imports, loadshedding will move up to stage 4 from 12 noon.
Eskom also announced yesterday that Phase 2 load shedding will be introduced this weekend due to generation units that have failed.
The power outages are expected to last until the middle of next week.
The planned power outages are estimated to cost the economy about R2bn a day.
