Academics want Pandor to act against sexual violence at universities─── 07:34 Fri, 29 Mar 2019
Women in academia are being forced to pay a high price in sexual currency.
Academics have had enough and are calling on Minister Naledi Pandor to act.
The academics want an inquiry into sexual violence in higher education and blacklisting of those found guilty.
University of Pretoria lecturer Athambile Masola said the state needs to be made accountable.
"To simply say we understand the frustration is just not good enough at this stage. We want to see action and consistency," said Masola.
Thandi Lewin, the Chief Director of University Governance and Management at the Department of Higher Education and Training, said that there is an appetite for change and the processes are underway.
Lewin stated with the endemic nature of sexual harassment in South Africa it is not strange that universities experience harassment.
