A 21-year-old from rural UMzinyathi outside Durban has defied all odds to represent the country at this year's World Skills Competition in Russia.
Philile Mngadi, crowned the country's electrical engineering champion, will be competing at the 45th World Skills Competition in August.
The competition organises the World Championships of Vocational Skills and is held after every 2 years.
"I am going to Russia to represent my country because I won the national leg of the competition, and I'm quite excited about it because it will be my first time flying out of the country and getting to compete with other champions of the world," Mngadi said.
