FS Farmers made most claims in 2018: Liberty─── PULANE CHOANE 17:45 Mon, 10 Jun 2019
The highest proportion of all death and risk claims made by people in the Free State came from farmers whose claims accounted for 21.54% of all claims made last year.
This was followed by business people at 13.23%, managers at 8%, pensioners at 5.23% and finally, brokers at 3.69%. The insurance firm, Liberty, today made this revelation at its offices in Bloemfontein, Free State, during its 2018 Claim Stats review. Liberty also said current trends show that there is a shift in the kinds of claims being made, with more people claiming for surviving traumatic events and less claiming for death.
Liberty’s Kresantha Pillay, who spoke at Liberty’s offices in Bloemfontein, said that it is interesting to note that the group’s clients are increasingly claiming for surviving traumatic events. She said that data showed that last year, only 30.78% of claims were paid on death, while 69.22% of claims were paid to surviving claimants.
In the Free State, 70.83% of all claims paid out were paid to survivors. She also adds that cancer made up 20% of all these claims made to survivors, while cardiovascular disease accounted for 16% of all the claims made in the province. In the Northern Cape, 69.23% of all claims were paid to survivors. The Western Cape has the lowest rate of survival-related claims at 63.19%, while Limpopo has the highest with 81.82% of all claims paid to survivors.
