Lack of communication caused protest─── 17:16 Wed, 10 Jul 2019
More than twenty people were arrested earlier today and released just after 2pm when protesters were torching the municipal buildings in Ottosdal earlier this morning.
OFM News spoke to the leader of the shutdown protest, Zwelinjane Welemane, who says the protests happened as a result of a lack of communication from the Tswaing Municipality.
He said that their attempts to follow proper channels has come to an end as residents are now fed-up and want action. Foreign shops in extension 2, 3 and 4 have been looted and shop owners have saved what is left and ran to town.
Welemane further stated that he had put it on record that the mayor of Tswaing failed to communicate with them in the right way, hence residents resorted to torching.
OFM News tried on numerous occasions to get comments from North West police spokesperson, Sam Tselanyane, as he failed to revert back as promised. Protest leaders will later this afternoon meet with residents for briefing.
