Another hefty increase in fuel prices for October─── 08:36 Sun, 29 Sep 2019
Petrol 95 octane unleaded (ULP) and lead replacement (LRP) will increase by 18c/l as of midnight on Tuesday, according to the energy department.
Petrol 93 octane, both ULP and LRP, will drop by 4c/l, the department said in a statement.
Both grades of diesel - 0.05 percent sulphur and 0.005 percent sulphur - would increase by 25c/l, as would the wholesale price of illuminating paraffin. The single maximum national retail price (SMNRP) for illuminating paraffin would increase by 33c/l. The maximum retail price for LPGAS would increase by 17c/kg.
The average international product prices for petrol, diesel, and illuminating paraffin increased during the period under review (August 30 - September 26).
However, the rand appreciated against the US dollar during the period under review, on average, when compared to the previous period. The average rand/US dollar exchange rate for the period August 30 to September 26 was 14.8432 compared to 15.1729 during the previous period.
This led to a lower contribution to the basic fuel prices on petrol, diesel, and illuminating paraffin by 16.02c/l, 17.03 c/l, and 17.22 c/l respectively, the department said.
