Sasol CEOs forced to quit after US fiasco─── 12:42 Mon, 28 Oct 2019
Sasol’s joint CEOs, Bongani Nqwababa and Stephen Cornell, have agreed to resign after an independent review into the company’s US project.
The Lake Charles Chemicals Project, which will have seven production units that deliver various chemicals including a plastics variant called polyethylene, will cost up to R190 billion, almost double the original budgeted amount.
The delays in the project’s technical problems have wreaked havoc on Sasol’s share price - the company lost just under 50% of its value over the past year.
An independent investigation into the project found inappropriate conduct and incompetence in the project management team – the company will take disciplinary action against the executive team previously in charge of the Lake Charles Chemicals Project.
