All systems go for Potchefstroom music festival on NY─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 11:34 Tue, 31 Dec 2019
It’s all systems go for the 14th Annual Jazz Family Day Music Festival at the Potchefstroom Dam in the North West on New Year’s Day.
The festival considered one of the biggest in the province, is expected to a draw a crowd tomorrow, with Cassper Nyovest, Amapiano, Dr Tumi, Jonathan Butler as well as legends Letta Mbulu and Caiphus Semenya amongst those set to hit the stage on the day.
Festival organiser, Phillip Masilo, tells OFM News all the necessary measures to avoid traffic congestion in getting to the dam and ensuring the safety of festival attendees are in place ahead of the big day.
According to Masilo, there will be a park and ride system available to avoid traffic congestion leading to the dam. Motorists will be able to park their vehicles at Catchet Park Shopping Centre, which is located on the corner of Meyer and Steve Biko streets. They will pay a fee of R 20 to have their car parked safely, but will be transported to the festival venue by bus free of charge.
He stresses those who wish to make use of the park and ride system will be required to present their tickets at Catchet park to be scanned. After the ticket is greenlit, they will already receive their wrist bands for entry into the venue before boarding the bus.
An issue for the festival organisers, is the selling of fake tickets on the streets, leading to disappointments for innocent buyers who may have thought the tickets were legitimate. He says what some of these individuals “do is that they buy a ticket, they cancel them, then they go back to reprint”. He emphasises “all cancelled tickets are invalid”.
Children below 12-years old enter the venue for free. Masilo says there is a kiddies corner for them as well. Alcohol is not sold at the venue.
