Dirco searches for flights for South Africans stuck in Morocco─── 12:20 Mon, 23 Mar 2020
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) says plans are underway to bring back 13 South Africans left stranded in Morocco.
Morocco has suspended all international flights in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Dirco spokesperson, Lunga Ngqengelele, says the department is in talks with their counterparts to ensure their safe return.
"As Dirco, we are aware of the South Africans that are stuck in Morocco and we are working through our missions in Morocco to make sure that we assist them and provide the services.
"We are looking at the availability of the flights that are to fly so that we can be able to advise the South Africans in terms of which flight," says Ngqngelele.
He adds that the department urges the citizens to co-operate with authorities in Morocco.
"We are requesting them to work with the embassy so that we make sure that at least when there is an availability of flights, we are able to get them to fly back to South Africa," concludes Ngqengelele.
The group has reportedly been left stranded since last week when Moroccan authorities suspended flights as part of a travel ban.
