Chinese companies donate R3m in #coronavirus fight─── 13:12 Tue, 24 Mar 2020
Chinese companies have donated a whopping R3 million to South Africa as part of efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Outgoing Chinese Ambassador Lin Songtian presented the money to Health Minister Zweli Mkhize on Tuesday morning.
The embassy has also donated a further 5550 testing kits.
"We are taking action. The donation of R3 million from the Chinese companies and communities in SA, among which R1 million from Huawei, and 5550 testing kits from China marks our true brotherhood, strong support and solidarity to SA,” Lin said.
"The Chinese government and people will as always stand firmly with the South African government and people until the final victory is achieved.”
While the number of new COVID-19 cases is still expected to rise, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Monday that the country would go into lockdown.
The government is hoping the three-week lockdown will reduce the rapid spread of the deadly virus.
