Parliament to meet over #Covid19 fund─── 10:08 Sun, 12 Apr 2020
Parties represented in Parliament are meeting early next week.
This to consider President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call on public office bearers and executives of large companies to contribute a third of their salaries to the fight against COVID-19.
But Tuesday's virtual meeting is unlikely to arrive at a unanimous position.
The EFF was the first political party to respond to the president’s call.
On Saturday - after convening a virtual meeting of its national executive committee - the IFP announced its elected public representatives will collectively contribute R500,000, over three months, to the Solidarity Fund.
Among those not so keen are opposition parties the Democratic Alliance and the Freedom Front Plus.
The governing ANC is set to follow the example set by its president and his executive.
