#CoronavirusSA: Repatriated South African shares experience | News Article

A repatriated South African from the United States of America, Sarah Cromhout, praises the South African government for taking the coronavirus seriously, protecting them and the rest of the citizens of the country.

She says the government did not only ensure that they were brought home safely, but has also taken good care of them. She explains her arrival at the facility as a pleasant one.

Cromhout arrived in the country on Sunday 3 May 2020. She is currently quarantined at the Eskom Academy in Midrand, east of Johannesburg, in Gauteng. She says there were six buses with nine people inside each when they were taken to the facility from the OR Tambo Airport on Sunday. She says there was an issue after landing at the airport, caused by a lack of communication. Apparently the facility did not know they were coming and the drivers also did not know the location.

Cromhout, however, lauded the hard work of the welcoming staff at the facility. She says the rooms have en suite bathrooms, wi-fi, as well as friendly and caring staff. She says they are not allowed to leave their rooms.

"From Day 3 we were allowed to have some deliveries to the facility."

She adds that they get three meals a day and their temperatures are checked twice a day. She further says each quarantine facility has a doctor who visits or speaks to them daily via WhatsApp regarding their concerns. Cromhout explains there is at least 60 people at the facility.

After being in the United States for four months, she misses her family in the Eastern Cape, being able to walk outside, staying active and even feeling the South African sun. She spends most of the day in her room, calling her family and friends, reading and also doing yoga.

Cromhout added that the doctor explained they might be released early, should they test negative and agree to self-isolate for the remainder of the 14 days.
