#CoronavirusSA: Cuban doctors report to work on Monday─── 11:34 Sun, 17 May 2020
Cuban doctors, who arrived in SA to help fight COVID-19, have completed their 14-day quarantine in Pretoria.
The first group has now arrived in the North West Province and is expected to report for duty on Monday.
The Cuban doctors were part of a group that arrived in South Africa last month.
Now, they’re ready to take on the world's most challenging pandemic.
The North West health department says the doctors will be stationed in four districts in the province.
The Health MEC in the province, Madoda Sambatha, has made it clear that the doctors won’t hijack anyone’s job.
Meanwhile, the Cuban doctors, including epidemiologists and healthcare technologists, have vowed to do all they can to help and to work hand in hand with the province's healthcare workers.
The provincial government says their last purchase of personal protective gear cost them R88 million.
