Homeschooling an option for anxious parents - Motshekga─── 12:13 Wed, 20 May 2020
Parents who are not comfortable sending their children back to school next month can choose the option of homeschooling.
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said on Tuesday that the option of homeschooling is available to parents.
“If you still feel anxious and doubtful, it's understandable that you can't send your child to school. But that can't determine the future of every child.”
Motshekga briefed the media on the phased reopening of the country's schools.
She advised concerned parents to enrol their children for homeschooling.
Motshekga says if parents decide not to send their children to school, The South African Schools Act allows them to homeschool.
She says the provincial education department will provide parents or guardians with the curriculum and exam plans.
If parents want their child to repeat the grade in 2021 - they will need to apply for it.
