#SchoolsReopening: Vaal school dealt a blow

#SchoolsReopening: Vaal school dealt a blow | News Article

Preparations for the reopening of schools in the Vaal have been dealt a blow days before learners are set to make their return.

This follows after criminals broke in and vandalised two schools during the lockdown period in the Vaal Triangle.

Criminals broke into Tshirela Primary School, and stole the school's Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which had just been delivered prior to the reopening of schools.

This is the second school in the area to be vandalised in less than three weeks, and follows after Mahareng Secondary School was vandalised. The school's equipment, including computers and electrical cables, were stolen and toilets were damaged.

Sedibeng East acting district director, Pheello Metseng, says the Gauteng department of education is looking at providing an industrial generator and to repair toilets for both educators and learners.

Meanwhile Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has confirmed that pupils in Grade 7 and 12 will now only return to school on Monday 8 June.
