Provincial departments of Social Development in Central South Africa have addressed the backlog in foster care court orders, that were about to lapse, in due time.

This is according to the national department of Social Development in an answer to a written question that was tabled in parliament.

The department indicated that there were 2 041 orders in the Free State, 345 in the Northern Cape and 2 045 in North West that were extended by the North Gauteng High Court Order. All these orders were due to lapse.

The Free State department indicated that the procedures on provincial- and district level are being reviewed to ensure that management of the extension of foster care orders are done in time.

North West said it is going to intensify its monthly monitoring programme and capacitating all 18 alternative care units as to avoid missing court deadlines.

The Northern Cape provincial government resolved to make sure that the provisions of the Children’s Act are being implemented in full.
