Motshekga to pupils: ‘Thank you for trusting us’─── 12:47 Mon, 06 Jul 2020
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has urged pupils to allow the department to make their health a top priority.
Motshekga visited several schools in Midrand on Monday morning as grades R, 6 and 11 pupils resumed the academic year.
Grades 7and 12 returned to school on 8 June following the Covid-19 lockdown.
"Did you miss us? We missed you guys. Are you happy to be back?" Motshekga asked pupils following some mixed emotions from some on being back at school.
"I will not take over the teachers because she looks like she's combat-ready,” the minister joked.
"I'm just here to thank you for trusting us with your safety because your coming here says you do trust us that we will look after you and we are appealing that you make it easy for us to look after you.
"You've trusted us, make it easy for us," she said.
Motshekga emphasised the need for pupils to maintain social distance and to wear masks.
"Wear your masks, sanitise and social distance.
"Masks are not the most comfortable things to wear but all the time. No hugs, not because we don't like each other. Don't allow anyone to speak to you without masks.”
