Women urged to ‘step up’─── LEATILE LEIEE 14:57 Thu, 09 Jul 2020
Women are urged to be more involved in projects that address gender based violence (GBV), and should participate in tackling education and economic challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic.
This is according to the President of the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL), Bathabile Dlamini. Dlamini says her goal is for women to spearhead ANC and ANCWL programmes that address GBV, femicide and the abuse of children.
She says that branches of the league must set up centres that create awareness in their communities, to improve service and outcomes of the challenges faced.
Dlamini also touched on the League’s intention to participate in education operations during this Covid-19 National Lockdown period.
ANCWL spokesperson Bitsa Lenkopane said: ‘”We call on women to regularly visit schools in the spirit of advocating for safety and life first for learners, and close monitoring as more grades are being phased into schooling programmes.
“Although we support the salvaging of the curriculum this year, we have the responsibility to fight for an environment that guarantees children’s safety and prioritise their life and health first.” Lenkopane also said the League is mobilising communities for mass screening for the early detection Covid19 complications and or infection.
