EC responds to scooter backlash─── 16:35 Fri, 10 Jul 2020
The Eastern Cape Health Department is responding to backlash over its ambulance scooters that cost around R10-million.
The department is adamant the scooters aren't meant to replace ambulances, but rather to transport patients to local clinics while ambulances can be used to transport patients to larger medical facilities.
The department said the scooters are meant for rural areas with poor road infrastructure.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize admitted that the scooters aren't suitable to transport patients.
