Intense cold front approaching | News Article

Another cold front is expected to make landfall over the south-western parts of the Western Cape on Monday.

The SA  Weather Service reports that it will result in gale force north-westerly winds over the Western, Northern and Eastern Cape Provinces as well as along the coast between Cape Columbine and George.

The wind speed will range between 65 and 100 kilometres an hour and will spread to Port Alfred by Monday evening.

Very high seas with wave heights between 9 and 13 metres are expected between Slangkop and Port Alfred.

The coast between Cape Columbine and Plettenberg Bay can also expect storm surges, which may lead to further coastal infrastructure damage and beach erosion.

The SA Weather Service is further warning that high sided vehicles are at risk of falling over as a result of crosswinds, particularly on the N1, N2, N7 and R60.

Strong north-westerly winds over the interior may fuel runaway fires over the Eastern Cape.

Meanwhile, the George Municipality has urged residents to travel only when it is necessary as per the storm warning that was issued on Sunday. The municipality has already received multiple reports of fallen trees as a result of the wind.
