#CoronavirusSA: Jail time for not wearing mask─── 14:42 Wed, 15 Jul 2020
If found guilty of contravening lockdown regulations, a person could face up to six months behind bars.
That's according to Justice and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola.
Lamola says depending on the ruling made by the magistrate, a person may be fined, or spend up to six months in prison for not wearing a mask in public.
"The charges will be the contravention of the regulations of the Disaster Management Act."
Ministers who serve in the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster of the National Coronavirus Command Council briefed the media on Wednesday, outlining the new regulations.
