PPE tender report released─── 18:00 Fri, 31 Jul 2020
The Western Cape Provincial Treasury has released the first-ever Procurement Disclosure Report.
The report details all personal protective equipment bought and paid for by the Western Cape government, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The report will be made available to the public.
Hundreds of millions of rand have been spent on PPE since the pandemic broke out in South Africa.
The Western Cape has spent more than R400-million on PPE so far but officials say they can account for every cent spent.
"This report is the first of its kind. It disclosures in detail the procurement of PPE and it provides significant transparency and I think it goes a long way to mitigate risks ii the procurement system. So at the end of the day, we can ensure that the vultures who feed on COVID-19 do not settle in the Western Cape," said the province's Finance and Economic Opportunities MEC, David Maynier.
Provincial Treasury has put a number of proactive support and compliance measures in place.
