#CoronavirusSA:Covid-19 cases increase to 559,854─── 07:18 Mon, 10 Aug 2020
As of Sunday, the number of confirmed coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in South Africa was 559,854, with 6,670 new cases identified.
The number of Covid-19-related deaths increased by 198, bringing the total to 10,408, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize said.
The provincial breakdown was as follows:
Eastern Cape - 82,401 (14.7 percent)
Free State - 28,370 (5.1)
Gauteng - 192,767 (34.4)
KwaZulu-Natal - 98,068 (17.5)
Limpopo - 10,546 (1.9)
Mpumalanga - 19,239 (3.4)
North West - 21,837 (3.9)
Northern Cape - 6621 (1.2)
Western Cape - 99,959 (17.9 percent)
Unknown - 50 (0.0)
A total of 3,250,583 tests had been processed to date, of which 30,318 had been conducted since the previous report on Saturday.
"Regrettably we report 198 new Covid-19-related deaths - 80 from the Eastern Cape, 32 from Gauteng, 63 from KwaZulu-Natal, and 23 from the Western Cape. This brings the cumulative total of reported Covid-19-related deaths to 10,408. We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased. The number of recoveries currently stands at 411,147 which translates to a recovery rate of 73 pecent," Mkhize said.
