Union calls for increase in danger allowance─── 12:03 Thu, 20 Aug 2020
The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) is calling for an increase in the danger allowance of prison and health officials.
The organisation said many work in unsavoury conditions, which have deteriorated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The union said considering the dire conditions these officers find themselves in, their danger pay should be reviewed.
Police Minister Bheki Cele said the pandemic is straining the already stretched resources of the police service.
Popcru's Richard Mamabolo said they've been observing members' working conditions.
"Members work under difficult and strenuous conditions," he said.
